About the daily quiz
Ten questions, once a day, the same set for everyone. You get one shot at each — no going back, no second guess — and then you see how you did and, if you want, where that puts you against everybody else who played today.
The point of a daily quiz is not the quiz. It is that it ends. Ten questions take about two minutes, there is nothing more to play, and you come back tomorrow. That is a different thing from a site that will feed you questions until you close the tab, and it is deliberate.
Streaks and scores
Playing on consecutive days builds a streak, which lives in your browser and belongs to you alone. Your score, if you have picked a name, goes on that day's leaderboard — right answers first, time only to break a tie. Each edition keeps its own board, and every one you play adds to your overall total, so a day missed is points the others took.
Frequently asked questions
What is the quiz of the day today?
Whatever is at the top of this page. It changes every morning on New York time, and everyone who plays on a given day gets the same ten questions — that is what makes comparing scores worth anything.
Can I play yesterday's quiz?
Yes. The last seven editions stay open further down this page, each with its own leaderboard. They still count toward your overall total, so a day you missed is not lost — it is just late.
Can I play the same day's quiz twice?
You can replay it, but only your best run is kept: most right answers, and the fastest time among equal scores. Replaying can improve your place on that day's board; it cannot stack up on your overall total.
Do I need an account to keep a streak?
No. The streak is stored in your browser and needs nothing from you. A name is only needed to appear on a leaderboard, and even that is just a name — no email, no password.
Where do the questions come from?
The same place as everything else here: each one is written from a named source and reviewed before it is published. The daily quiz also gets questions written for it specifically, so that playing a topic page does not spoil the next morning.
